Do you ever sit and just marvel

at the goodness God has blessed you with? I know I don't all that often, but I guess sometimes something needs to click for it to really hit home.
I have been following the story of Ethan Powell, a young child with cancer. I have read all the ups and downs and cried and laughed with his family. Unfortunately, even with transplants and numerous rounds of chemo, his cancer keeps returning. They have one last option available which they just started this past week. I honestly don't know how I could do it... let alone keep the faith and continually believe that "God's plan is bigger than ours" in the way that his family has.
Just recently I started reading about another child with cancer, Anna Jane, and I just found out that she actually passed away on Saturday. Reading her story brings tears to my eyes b/c all I can picture is it being my child in her place. Again, she was surrounded by a God-fearing family who understands that "she has shed her catepillar body for her butterfly suit" and their faith has carried them through the past 2+ years that she has dealt with her illness.

My heart hurts for these families but yet swells with love for the family I have. Reading through their trials sort of makes the little nuances in my life seem pretty small... at least my children are healthy enough to be doing these things.
I don't understand why God has blessed my family in such a strong way and why these other children have to suffer, but I know I need to give back thanks to Him for all He has done. He has taken care of us in ways unimaginable and I especially want to focus on that this holiday season.

Take time to be thankful for all of the blessings in your life today... and remember those who may be still searching for those blessings to be evident.
