"How are you doing"?

How often are you asked this and know that someone is only looking for the short answer? Or on the flipside... how often do you ask this and only want to listen to the short answer?
Why do we ask/ are we asked when it is blatantly apparent that the true answer isn't what is being sought after?
I challenge you to ask, and really take the time to listen to someone this coming week and listen to what is behind the words. There might be a lot more there than you imagined.

I think this is really something that is good to think about. And when someone asks me, I try to think before I automatically answer "good". Although, I'm sure most people don't want to hear all about my crazy day with my kids sometimes. ;)

    So, Jen, how are you?
