I don't often post about religious things on my blog, but every once in awhile something really strikes me and I feel like I need to be sharing... and today is one of those days.
I just happened to be listening to my Itunes and had it on shuffle and a sermon came on (some podcast or something I subscribed to) and for once, I actually didn't turn it off. The sermon was on "Christmas" and he went all through the book of Hosea, comparing Gomer's love for his wife to God's love for the church. While intriguing, nothing that made me pause it, rewind and listen again... that was until I heard this little tidbit.
He then asked how many of us question whether God actually loves us? Not necessarily every day, but how many of us have looked in the mirror and wondered how God could love someone like who we see reflected (my summary and lingo inserted here) He then said to the parents in the room... Imagine your child coming up to you, looking you in the eyes and asking when you were going to trade him in for a better version of who he is. Imagine them saying that they knew how foolish they were and how they didn't meet your expectations. Imagine them saying that there was no way that you could truly love them... it would break your heart- yes?
Then why so often do we do that to God? Why do we question His love for us? Everytime you feel abandoned, left out, unloved by God, imagine how it makes Him feel... imagine the pain it brings- He has already done so much...sacrificed and suffered as none other. Shouldn't we believe that he at least has as much compassion as us? Through all we have done... He can't stop loving us...
Wow. I needed to hear this today... and maybe someone reading this did as well. Embrace the love He has so freely lavished upon us.
