Micah read his first official book tonite... it only took about 45 mins to accomplish- lol. Although that sounds like a horribly long time, he did a GREAT job considering that is the first time we have ever sat down to even attempt anything. When we were half-way through I was ready to stop for the nite but he wanted to push on to find out what happened and he did great even when he was getting tired. I have no idea if he is learning/ I am teaching him the right way but we sounded out the words and he caught onto things pretty quickly. I hope to try and tape him the next time we do this so you all can hear as well. While I am on that topic... anyone have any suggestions for other um... shorter books we can tackle? ;) He is just a beginning reader so they need to be pretty simplistic but I can see that this is something we will be doing quite a bit in the coming weeks/ months. While I love Dr. Suess, it gets a bit repetitive by the time you are hitting page 60 ;)
Another Micah tidbit I forgot to share the other nite... When Tim was taking Micah home from preschool the other day he was in the back seat looking through his "comic book" (Scholastic book order) and was telling Tim all about what he was seeing. There was scooby doo, transformers (which were actually power rangers) and then, Sponge Bob Squirb Mit (Sponge Bob Square Pants) Tim said he asked him over and over who it was and he kept saying, "Spongebob Squirb Mit" and Tim couldn't help but laugh over his pronunciation.
And in closing...
Apparently,

and

have similar features... at least that is what Addie said the other nite. She started rubbing Tim's go-tee and said, "Daddy your beard looks just like Jesus'" hee hee One can't be too upset over that comparison I guess.

Jen - we have a ton of learning to read books that Mackenzie loves. She has been on that same track and reading to us whenever possible. We have gotten most of them through scholastic. Some of her favorites are Biscuit, Amelia Badilia, and Danny and the Dinasour. They are short and sweet, but really emphasize learning sight words.

Check out the Easy Ready section and the pri- primar or primary section at the library. I really like those books and many times they are short and will not take the entire 45 minutes. Some that stick out in my mind are Biscuit and Ameilia Bedeila time, Syd Hoff Books and much more! Good luck.
Do you know a librarian, maybe they can help you out in the areas that interest Micah! Check with them.
