Playing around in Photoshop

with a "Fix it Friday" photo from

Here is the original...

and here is my attempt at improving it...

I Heart Faces

I am not completely happy with my edit but this picture started out severely underexposed, blown areas (head, neck, cheek...) and very grainy as a result. Any attempt at bringing up the levels resulted in more grain.
In a nutshell... here is what I did ...

"I used a sharp curves adjustment to bring out some of the hidden detail, raised the exposure one step, color balanced to add more warmth to the photo, USM, cloned an area of overexposure on his cheek, cropped some of the harsh back lighting and then ran noiseware to try and get rid of some of the noise. Unfortuantely b/c of the amount of noise, the photo ended up looking almost too filtered out when noiseware was ran"

I think it looks good!! Great job! And Often times I actually like the "too filtered" look on children...makes them look a bit more angelic! ;-)

Nice job. I went in a totally different direction to try and avoid trying to fix it....so KUDOS to you! I like softness to the skin you were able to create.

Well, there you are! Ignore my message on Photo Bucket. :) I couldn't figure out where your blog was. I'm the Ohioan you came across through I ♥ Faces. We actually do live pretty close to each other. I'm in the small town of Creston. My MIL shops in Canton all the time. I don't head that way often, because I'm originally a Medina County gal, so that's where I'm used to shopping. Most people who live near me, though, shop in Canton and Wooster. It was really nice to meet you! I'm adding you to my list of favs so I can find you again. :)
